FACILITIES
The Department of Ocean Engineering has created infrastructure facilities for carrying out Quality work in R & D and teaching in the area of Ocean Engineering. The major facilities are listed below:
Wave Basin
Wave Basin (30 x 30 x 3 m deep) equipped with Multi-element wave maker (MEWM) (52 paddles) capable of producing short crested waves & Long crested wave maker (LCWM) capable of producing regular and random waves
Random Wave Flume
(90 x 4 x 2.5 m deep) with twin flap type wave maker
Wave- cum- Current Flume
(30 x 2 x 1 m deep) with piston type wave maker
Shallow Water Wave Flume
(72m x 2m x variable depth up to 2m) with piston and hinge type wave maker
Towing Tank
(85 x 3.2 x 2.5 m deep, maximum carriage speed: 5 m/s)
Marine Instrumentation Laboratory
Structural Testing Facility (loading frames, test beds, loading device)
Marine Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory
Ship Model Milling Machine (5m long, 60 cm wide models of ships etc.)
Materials Laboratory for Ocean application
Pressure Chamber (2m high, 0.8 dia, pressure 30 kgf/cm2)
Departmental Computational Facility (DCF)
Macreflex system for maneuvering and motion measurements
Propeller Drilling Machine (model screw propellers up to 300 mm dia.)
